Application Process
Our application process is relatively straightforward and we are always on hand to help our applicants and offer advice. The process follows five steps that are designed to allow us to perform our due diligence before we consider our decision, and it allows the applicant to fully assess their project.
The five stages are detailed below, and please remember that if you need any further information or assistance then we are happy to help.
Stage 1 An approach can be made to a member of staff or a Trustee. Your initial enquiry can be made in person, by telephone, email or letter. Please feel free to come and see us at any stage.
Stage 2
With your consent your proposal will be taken to the weekly screening meeting of Shetland Development Trust, Shetland Islands Council’s Economic Development Unit and Shetland Enterprise. This allows all three development agencies to see how to progress your project so that the best service can be offered to you.
Stage 3
We will then contact you with the outcome of the screening meeting and give you guidance on how to proceed.
Stage 4 We will appoint a Project Manager from one of the development agencies to work with you in producing the information needed to submit your application. This will ensure that we have all the relevant information for the Project Manager to prepare a report for our Trustees for decision.
Stage 5
Once the investment report with recommendations is finalised it will be presented at a Trustees meeting for decision. You may be asked to attend the meeting to answer Trustees questions. Once a decision has been made your Project Manager will contact you with the outcome.
Stage 6 Should your application be approved and exceeds £250,000 it must then be presented to Shetland Islands Council for ratification.
