Fishing Industry
Fish catching is worth £38m to Shetland and directly employs 306, with an estimated additional 204 in ancillary services.
We currently have £6m in commercial investments in 20 fishing boats in the pelagic, whitefish and shellfish sectors. In partnership with local banks, we have helped fishing partnerships to purchase their own vessels, licences and quota.
We also have a large investment of £17m in fish quotas that are managed by the fishing agents and leased to individual boats on a commercial basis.
We work closely with the local fishing agents and industry bodies to help develop and support a competitive Shetland fleet.
