SHETLAND ISLANDS COUNCIL SECURES ONGOING CORE FUNDING FOR COPE LTD

Yesterday, 5 June 2008, the Shetland Island’s Council Development Committee agreed to provide annual core funding of £350,000 until March 2011 to Cope Ltd, (Community Opportunities for Participation in Enterprise).  Cope Ltd is a registered charity and runs a variety of social businesses in a range of markets within Shetland.

This social and environmentally conscious organisation offers an excellent range of services, employing over 50 people and provides employment and training opportunities for individuals that really need them.  Their businesses promote equality of access, and include the Shetland Soap Company, Cope Catering and Shetland Scrap Store.

Chairman of Cope Ltd, George McGhee said, “We are delighted to have received continued financial support from the Council for this service.  This is a key time for us, with ever-increasing demands for the service, and we are currently developing a new strategy plan for the future and we will be working closely with the Council on this.  We are looking forward to developing our new venture in Whalsay, and the Shetland Spring Water factory in Weisdale.”
