PRESS STATEMENT
Following Shetland Island’s Council and Shetland Development Trust meetings today, the Trust has agreed the Council’s recommendations that the Council will become the “Sole Trustee” of the Shetland Development Trust.
This will delegate the management of the Trust to the recently formed Shetland Island’s Council Development Committee, where all 22 elected Councilors are members. This committee will act as the corporate body regarding the business of the Trust.
This Trust deed change will not affect the daily operations of the Shetland Development Trust where business will continue as normal.
Josie Simpson, Chair of the Development Committee said, “ The decision today will allow for our business operations to be more effective and streamlined, removing the need to go through several committee layers. Projects and applications will be considered directly by the Development Committee who will act as the leading agent for taking forward sustainable economic development in Shetland.
Furthermore, both the SIC Economic Development Unit and Shetland Development Trust staff will be under one operating structure and will work closely with their partners, Highlands and Islands Enterprise. Staff from all these organisations will be moving in the summer to Solarhus, where our range of services will be available in a one-stop shop for all local users to access.”
