Transport and Tourism
We view tourism as a growing sector in Shetland and one that we are keen to support to help Shetland 'become a year-round destination offering a high quality product and experience.'
Tourism is worth £13m to the Shetland economy each year but there is considerable scope for growth.
An essential element of developing tourism is establishing transport links. Shetland Development Trust has a £4.4m investment in Smyril Line, which operates a ferry service between Shetland and its Scandinavian neighbours.
We aim to support the tourism sector further by providing commercial financial assistance to tourism related businesses and services.
